2022 CHEROKEE ART MARKET PARTICIPATATING ARTIST

ROBERT PROCTOR

Tribal Affiliation: Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

Bob grew up on the plains of Texas and Oklahoma and was greatly influenced by the contrast and simplicity of these landscapes. This contrast carries through in his jewelry designs, which he began in 1982 after receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree in architecture from the University of Oklahoma. He is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and a Choctaw Artisan.  He has exhibited at the Philbrook Art Museum in Tulsa and the Oklahoma Art’s Center in Oklahoma City as well as the Queen Gallery in Cherokee, North Carolina, and the Gallery Goodchild in Reneze’, France. He has had pieces in the shops of the Gilcrease Museum, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Catoosa Hard Rock Casino. The Choctaw Museum of Art purchased Bob’s pendent piece, titled “The Bone Picker.” He places a red bead, “humma nihi,” on many of his necklaces and also has a hallmark symbol of 2 1/2 mountains.
