PAUL KING

Tribal Affiliation: Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

“An artist by trade, an educator by choice” sums up Paul King. He became a graphic designer after receiving his degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Durant) followed by a graphic design diploma from Oklahoma State University, Institute of Technology (Okmulgee). A call from a former instructor changed King’s life and allowed him to secure his first teaching position (graphic design) at Charles Page High School, where he taught for 10 years before going to Tulsa Tech in the same capacity for another 15 years. He became activities coordinator (8 years), then a district career advisor (3 years) at Tulsa Tech to complete his 36 years. Upon retirement in 2012, King began concentrating on his art legacy to his grandchildren to let them learn more about their own Choctaw heritage and his love of sports through his artwork. Paul’s exhibits include National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, DC; Oklahoma Historical Society Museum, Oklahoma City; Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Gaylord-Pickens Museum, Oklahoma City; Semple Family Museum of Native American Art, Durant; Choctaw Nation Judicial Center & Child Care Center, Durant;  Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival, Tuskahoma; Cherokee Art Market, Hard Rock Hotel, Catoosa; Mvsoke Art Market, Tulsa; Tulsa Mayfest Invitational Gallery, AHHA Center, Tulsa; and 108 Contemporary Gallery, Tulsa.
